| Helpful Tips for Completing a Law School Essay |

One of my older brothers decided to go to law school
when he was 50 years old. He always wanted to go to law school but he
did not have the time or finances to do it until he reached fifty years
of age. He worked full time as a social worker in the same agency with
me while taking three classes during the first year of school.
I was amazed at his ability to complete the tasks that comes with his high stress job while studying and reading for his law classes. Well, he said that he was not prepared for the law school essay. My older brother did not find it difficult to take traditional tests, but the law school essay is a completely new concept for him. The law school essay is supposed to give the students an opportunity to put what they are learning into their own words. Writing the essays will help the students when they need to write briefs for court hearings. This new test can also help them learn how to defend their stance on a certain point of law. A student is allowed to bring a lap top computer to the class for the timed tests. However, the computer will be thoroughly examined to insure that the person is not cheating. My brother told me that the majority of the students choose to hand write their law school essay rather than use a computer.
My brother also wrote his essay by hand because his wife uses their laptop computer for work. His wife does not want to risk losing important information when the school checks the computer prior to the tests.
Since each law school essay has to be read by the professor teaching the course, the students have to wait for a long period of time before they can get the scores from the tests. The professors have a tedious job of reading these assays because they have to deal with several different students with various kinds of hand writing. This procedure is also applied on the bar exam that each student needs to pass prior to becoming a practicing attorney. The bar exam is given over a two day period. One day is devoted to multiple choice questions while the second day is for law school essay questions. Both of these exams are timed. The bar exam’s essay portion includes five areas of the law. My brother had a difficult time when he took the bar exam for the first time. This is because one of the questions was on tax law, which he does not have a great deal of interest in.
He was unable to pass his first bar exam because of this particular essay. As a result, he had to study and wait for six months before taking the test again. Fortunately, he was able to pass the exam on his second try and is now a practicing attorney.
